We all know that the Twitter revolution is here. Twitter has increasingly become the quickest way to get your information out, be it a personal event, movie review, or product information. With 140 characters you can get your information out in the blink of an eye.
The problem that many people face is reciprocation. Obviously, unlike every other social networking site, Twitter is not reciprocal. Just because I’m following you, doesn’t mean that you have to follow me. This has become the conundrum for many people. How do I get you to follow me?
There are a few answers for that.
First – follow them. Of course this isn’t the cure all. You still have people that just want a million followers and won’t return the favor. It’s ok. The beauty in Twitter is that you’re looking for quality over quantity anyway. If they don’t want to follow you, its fine, they probably aren’t your target demographic anyway. There are lots of great programs that will help you look for specific targets and automatically add up to 300 people a day for you.
Second – give interesting content. Post information that’s relevant to who you are and what you’re about. Give people a reason to want to follow you. Make sure you’re up to date with your information and you are constantly interacting
Third – interact. This is SOCIAL MEDIA people!! Be SOCIAL!! Don’t just post information and leave it at that! Comment on things that your followers are talking about and make sure you respond when people comment on your talking points. Be informal. This is the place to be casual, but still get your information across. Be human. Don’t sound corporate and automated. Your followers will appreciate it!
